Money, as mundane as it might appear, offers as rich a spiritual window
into us and our culture as may be found. We all need enough of
the stuff to exchange for food, shelter and basic needs; but money
issues beyond basic needs figure heavily into self-esteem and
relationships. As a culture we are both obsessed with it and
afraid to talk about it. As any divorce or estate attorney has
witnessed, money can make perfectly sane people act crazy. It
seems to unconsciously represent so many things it is not: power,
control, freedom, sex, intelligence, love, and even god. Everyone
seems to have something they want to change with relation to money, or
at least about their significant other's relationship to money. By uncovering early messages from culture, religion, and family we begin to understand our unconscious motivations. Unveiling the roots of confusion can provide freedom to make clearer decisions. This workshop offers new perspectives, a framework for self-inquiry and an opportunity to learn from others. Friday, April 2, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Introduction to money psychology: Discern your money style with a quick test and talk with others who share your perspective. Examine common cultural myths.
